In 2020, fake news has increased by 365%. There are already several investigations that warn of the dangers of false news according to the latest study by the Complutense University of Madrid.
In another of its reports, the consulting firm Gartner also collects that in 2022 most Western countries will consume more false information than real news.
There is so much information they have about us, and the segmentation tools of some social networks are so precise, that they almost allow each person to be delivered the news they would like to receive today. This power is what makes social networks very dangerous and makes it essential to stop giving credibility to everything that is related to our thinking or ideology.
Starting from this problems, our team has been involved in ”The truth of mask” youth exchange organized by Asociacion Plan Be in Iscar, Spain, between 11 to 19 March 2022.
The main objectives of the project were as following:
1- To Train and propose strategies for YE participants and target audience when it comes to prevent the dissemination of this type of news and the consequent misinformation that this causes, both in the digital and on paper fields.
2- To Encourage critical thinking between the young people as the only effective weapon to combat the manipulation of thought that lead to uncivil and hateful thoughts, behaviors and acts.

„All I can say for this experience it’s „wow”. This adventure was a feeling that you don’t think you will ever experience. The final purpose for an Erasmus+ project is the cultural exchange but I really think that it was so much more than that. It’s an exchange of feelings, laughs, tears, smiles and emotions. I think this project made me realise how many things I have in common with people that at first seemed so different, I mean, we are not even speaking the same language. Now I really realise that communication is so much more than the language that we speak. It’s weird how close you can become with people that you won’t even see again, but you just hope that, maybe another project will bring you together again and that’s how you won’t ever stop participate. „My name is Elena, I am from Romania, and between 11th and 19th of March, 2022, I participated in The Mask of Truth Erasmus+ project, in Iscar, Spain. The countries that were involved in the project were Romania, Spain, Turkey, Portugal and Italy, and we were 5 youngsters per country (except Italy, where they were 10). I consider that the topic of the project is a very important one nowadays, because fake news are spreading very fast and there are only a few people who actually check the source of news. The facilitators shared with us information about fake news and we all found ways to stop them and realised that the best way is to stay informed from official sources. We found ways to spot the fake news, we understood how and why are they created and we developed a lot of new skills. (digital skills, literacy skills, language skills, cultural skills, communication skills). We also did a lot of getting to know each other and bonding activities, and we created a great team, we really were like a big family at the end of the project. We visited Salamanca and the Castle of Iscar, we explored the whole town of Iscar and we met locals that were nice to us and shared info about the local history. We laughed, we cried, we created amazing friendships and we decided that we want to meet again in the future. This project, like all the Erasmus+ projects, was life changing.” – Elena
„Proiectul Erasmus+ în Iscar a fost de departe cea mai unică și interesantă experiență pe care am avut-o vreodată. Legat de partea organizatorică, consider că lucrurile au fost bine puse la punct. Transportul asigurat până la cazare a fost un mare plus, pentru că am putut să ne luăm o grijă de pe umeri. Iscar, fiind un orășel destul de mic, a făcut să existe o închegare bună între participanți, pentru că nu erau alte „atracții” care să ne distragă atenția, așa că ne-a fost ușor să formăm noi prietenii și să ne cunoaștem. Locația în sine (cazarea) a fost decentă, deși camerele erau cam friguroase. Totuși, aceste aspecte sunt lucruri mărunte care se uită odată ce încep activitățile.
Activitățile în sine au fost foarte bine gândite și chiar simt că am reușit să rămân cu câte ceva din fiecare. Accentul a fost pus foarte mult pe partea practică, lucru care a avantajat subiectul proiectului, pentru că am reușit să construim materiale care să combată partea de fake news, iar în același timp să înțelegem ce înseamnă acest fenomen și cum putem să ne implicăm în comunitatea noastră pentru a le opri. Totodată, a fost foarte bine că de multe ori am fost împărțiți în echipe diferite, pentru că am reușit să ne cunoaștem ușor între noi.
Facilitatorii au avut o atitudine foarte bună și ne-au făcut să ne simțim confortabil în spațiul creat, astfel încât nu ne era niciodată rușine să prezentăm ce am avut de făcut sau să vorbim în public. Au făcut tot posibilul să relaționeze cât de mult cu fiecare din noi și să se asigure că experiența noastră este una cât mai bună.
Serile culturale au dat culoare întregului proiect, am reușit să învăț câte ceva din fiecare cultură, de la cuvinte/expresii la feluri de mâncare, tradiții și dansuri.
Simt că am rămas cu multe de la acest proiect, că am legat prietenii și că am înțeles mult mai
bine subiectul de fake news, deci chiar a fost o experiență de neuitat din perspectiva mea.” – Roxana
„Proiectul The mask of truth desfășurat în Iscar, Spania este al doilea de acest tip la care am participat, pe primul trăindu-l în noiembrie, în Italia, în anul precedent. Fiindcă trecuse o perioadă relativ scurtă de timp de la acesta din urmă, în primele zile ale mobilității din Spania aveam tendința să compar: activități, oameni, atmosferă. Eram fixată pe elemente obiective, fizice, organizatorice. Însă după 3-4 zile, am înțeles de fapt în ce constă frumusețea programelor Erasmus+, si anume în puritatea sentimentelor autentice care năvălesc participantul, odată ce acesta își deschide sufletul și își dă curajul să fie el, în forma sa dezinhibată și sinceră. Iar elementele obiective din jur nici nu mai contează.
<Ce am de pierdut dacă voi fi cu adevărat „eu”, doar n-o să mă mai întâlnesc cu ei niciodată> sunt vorbele pe care mi le-am spus mie însămi, sunt cele care mi-au creat contextul în care am simțit, poate printre primele dăți în viața mea, libertate deplină, iar mai apoi am dublat-o de drag din ce în ce mai profund față de oamenii întâlniți acolo. Revenind la libertate, acesta este sentimentul după care sunt, acum, cel mai nostalgică și nu doar că sper că mă voi reîntâlni cu colegii de proiect care m-au făcut atât de fericită și mi-au încurajat „libertatea”, ci aștept cu nerăbdare acest moment care cu certitudine se va întâmpla. Mai repede sau mai târziu, nici nu mai contează. Îi simt cu mine prin fiecare amintire creată și derulată în propria-mi minte oricând mă simt cât de puțin tristă sau demoralizată.
A fost magic.
